More than 20,000 meatballs were made as part of the 100 Club’s Fourth Annual Molto Grande Meatball Eating Contest.

The San Antonio Police Department and Bexar County Sheriff’s Office competed against each other as part of the annual spaghetti dinner fundraiser. They had two minutes to eat 12 meatballs.

“All’s fair in love and war,” said John Mahon with BCSO. “Like I was telling them. So you basically eat half a meatball, drink some water, chipmunk them, as one would say, and then just eat another one and then, at the end, when they start counting down, just put as many in your mouth as you possibly can.”

The strategy worked as BCSO took home the win for the fourth year in a row as the team ate 29 meatballs.

Funds from the spaghetti dinner festivities benefit the children of fallen first responders and assists with their college tuition.

There’s one more day of the spaghetti dinner on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
