Some local ministers are doing their best to make sure the night is full of treats and not tricks in east San Antonio.

They are at the Palms Apartments for Halloween night, where, two weeks ago, two little boys were hurt by gunfire.

San Antonio police say that the children were outside playing and got caught in the crossfire of a gang-related retaliation shooting.

Police have been called to the troubled complex nearly 300 times in the last six months, but the faithful said that they will remain true to their cause of making a powerful, positive impact where violence is common.

Many of the mothers who live at the Palms say that they live in fear.

"One night, we had the door open and we hear ‘pop, pop, pop, pop.’ They're running, they run right through my thing with my door open, shooting," said one woman who didn’t want to be identified.

But there is hope.

"We bless the Young family and the families here at the Palms. Thank you for keeping them safe. Continue to open doors, Lord," said Minister Jondavid De Leon as he prayed.

Ministers from the City of God Church have been faithfully preaching at the Palms for four years, providing help to those who need it most. They said that they will give out candy on Halloween night and their efforts will continue after the holiday.

They are already looking ahead, raising money for a giant Thanksgiving feast and an over-the-top Christmas celebration.

They said that they will be at the Palms, walking in faith, as long as it takes to make a difference.
