SAN ANTONIO — The Bexar County Sheriff's Office is stepping up the plate and pitching in to help local Texans affected by the ongoing federal government shutdown.

According to a BCSO press release, deputies will be working to collect non-perishable food items outside Walmarts across the county to be donated to the San Antonio Food Bank for federal employees.

As of Thursday night, deputies will be holding the food drives outsides stores at the following locations on Friday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.:

  • 4096 North Foster Road
  • 1603 Vance Jackson Road
  • 11210 Potranco Road

In addition, members of BCSO's recruitment personnel will be at the Marriott Springhill Suites at 514 NE Loop 410 taking applications for federal employees looking for work. BCSO says those applications will be expedited so the hiring process can begin sooner.

The office advised to keep an eye on its Facebook page for further locations for both food drives and recruitment.
