SAN ANTONIO - Two children are in critical condition after they were rescued from a massive northwest-side house fire early Sunday morning.

Around 3 a.m., crews from the San Antonio Fire Department were called to a house on South Village Drive near Loop 1604 and Babcock Road near the main UTSA campus.

Firefighters reportedly rescued two children trapped inside, and they were taken to University Hospital in critical condition.

Officials are working to determine the cause of the fire.

SAFD said their mother was also transported to a local hospital for treatment after she tried to break windows to get the children out herself.

The fire is under investigation. More information was not immediately available.
