Austin-area resident claims winning lottery ticket, will receive $1K per week for 20 years

The ticket was purchased at a 7-Eleven on South US Highway 183 in Leander, about 20 miles from Austin.

LEANDER, Texas — One lucky Leander resident is about to get a bonus payout every week for a long time.

According to the Texas Lottery, a Leander resident claimed a top prize-winning ticket worth $1,000 per week for 20 years (not to exceed $1,040,000) in the scratch ticket game Weekly Grand. The resident chose the weekly payment option and opted to remain anonymous.

The winning ticket was purchased at the 7-Eleven convenience store located at 707 S. US Highway 183 in Leander.

The Texas Lottery said this was the third of four top prizes available to be claimed in this game. Weekly Grand offers more than $34.6 million in total prizes and the overall odds of winning any prize in the game are one in 4.06, including break-even prizes.

This is just the most recent big lotto win in Central Texas. On Nov. 5, an Austin resident claimed a Mega Millions prize worth $1 million and just before Thanksgiving, a Texas Two-Step jackpot ticket was sold in Austin.
