The popular San Antonio River Walk will feature new, bigger, and brighter barges this weekend, including a new ticket price.

Go Rio San Antonio will become the new river barge operator starting Sunday. Rio San Antonio Cruises operated the River Walk barges the last 15 years, according to spokesperson Rachael Garza.

The company employs more than 120 people, but the change in ownership does not mean it’s the end of the tour for all employees.

"We've brought on a large percentage of employees from the current operator who are eager to come on,” Go Rio San Antonio Co-owner Lisa Wong said.

Employees were out on the river training on Tuesday. They say it’s a new learning curve and they’re excited.

The new electric boats will be quieter, sit higher on the water, and will feature LED lighting and versatile seating arrangements.

The barges will display five different colors with various themes.

Ticket prices will jump to $12 for general admission, $10 for Bexar County residents, and $9 for senior citizens and United States Military personnel.

If you’re looking to buy a little piece of San Antonio history, Rio San Antonio Cruises will be selling their 43 barges.
