It was the perfect night for some twinkling lights to brighten the campus of the University of the Incarnate Word. The Light The Way Holiday Festival had a more intimate feel this year.
Misty Gonzales graduated from the university. This year was the first time she went with her whole family. Thousands like the Gonzales family came to witness the switch get flipped so the lights can turn on.
"This is when I know Christmas is right around the corner," she said.
She liked the change this year. It was held in front of the campus for a more festival-type atmosphere.
"It is more intimate," Gonzales said. "Everyone is closer together, and huddled. The weather is perfect for that."
The Cardinals tradition also new for its 10th president who has been on the job only four months. Dr. Thomas Evans said that he was looking forward to seeing all the people on the campus. He also had a message for everyone this time of year.
"To be with community, to be with friends, and family and to enjoy that," he said. "Never take it for granted, and spend all the time with one another rejoicing."
The lights will stay on until January 6. For more information, you can visit the official website here.
