Here's what the line of succession will be for the new Royal baby!

Who will get the crown? Here's what to know.

Only hours after Kate Middleton and Prince William welcomed their third child, a baby boy, Royal watchers are already wondering where this new Royal will fall in line for the crown.

The Succession to the Crown Act, which went into effect in 2015, changed the rules for succession to the throne so it is no longer based on gender. Before, the crown went to male preference primogeniture — where princes would get the crown over their older sisters. Now, with the new law, males born after Oct. 28, 2011, cannot overtake their older sisters in line to the throne, which is great news for Princess Charlotte. Princess Charlotte will keep her position as fourth in line to the throne, with the new baby behind her in fifth place.

The current succession is then as follows: After the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the throne will fall to Charles, Prince of Wales, then Prince William, Duke of Cambridge. Then, after William, will follow his three children: Prince George (3rd in line), Princess Charlotte (4th in line) and the new baby (fifth in line).
