SAN ANTONIO -- Veteran San Antonio news anchor Deborah Knapp has been named anchor for KENS 5 Eyewitness News at 10 p.m. Knapp celebrated her 30th anniversary with the station in 2017.

Knapp has been filling in on the anchor desk for the station’s signature late newscast since the departure of longtime anchor Sarah Lucero in November.

“I’m thrilled to make the move permanent,” Knapp said. “I enjoy working with Jeff, Bill, Joe and our terrific reporters each night. After talking it over with my husband, we felt this was a great move for me and our family.”

Knapp is joined on the anchor desk by Jeff Brady, chief weather forecaster Bill Taylor and sports director Joe Reinagel. The team has more than 85 years of combined experience covering San Antonio.

“We always knew Deborah was the right fit at 10 p.m.,” said Tom Cury, president and general manager for KENS 5. “We’re thrilled to have Deborah’s professionalism and experience joining us permanently at 10 p.m.”

Knapp will continue to anchor the station’s top-rated newscasts at 4 and 5 p.m.

“Deborah is a mentor to many in our newsroom and a leader for our station and community,” said Jack Acosta, executive news director. “We are lucky to have her.”

Knapp is an Emmy Award-winning anchor who has been inducted into the San Antonio Women's Hall of Fame. A graduate of MacArthur High School in San Antonio and the University of Texas at Austin, she is currently serving on the boards of the Boy Scouts of America and The Old Spanish Missions, which restored and maintains San Antonio's historic mission churches, now designated as a World Heritage Site.

Knapp is married and has two children and three grandchildren.
