The mariachi music is even louder in San Antonio this weekend. Several groups from all over are taking part in one of the largest and longest running mariachi music events in the country.

This is the 23rd year for Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza, which attracts 15,000 participants from the United States and Mexico.

The award-winning group Mariachi Luna Llena from Houston's Rice University started four years ago. The president of the group Gabriel Gomide said coming to San Antonio to compete is an honor.

The group also brought their music in front of the Gonzaba Event Center on Saturday. Paco Gonzaba with Gonzaba Medical Group said it is the first locally-owned business to be the premiere sponsor of the week-long extravaganza.

"Because our patients love mariachi music, we wanted to bring something to them," he said. "We wanted them to be proud of us."
