San Antonio Zoo unveils Hippo Fiesta medal

Timothy the Hippo is front and center in the Zoo's 2018 Fiesta medal that features a spinning tail.

The viral social media star of the San Antonio Zoo is front and center on this year's Fiesta medal, which was unveiled Thursday.

Timothy the Hippo has received national attention for his Facebook and Twitter posts professing his infatuation with Fiona the Hippo at the Cincinnati Zoo.

With the recent buzz surrounding Timothy the Hippo, San Antonio Zoo’s medal features two hippopotami intended to symbolize Timothy and his grandmother, Uma. Owners and traders of this stunning medal will also have fun spinning Timothy’s tail. This fun element mimics a hygienic trait a hippopotamus can often be seen doing to impress a female hippopotamus.

The medals are available for $10.95 and will be sold at San Antonio Zoo gift shops, Lion’s Pride, Nanyuki Market, as well as at the zoo’s Train Depot in Brackenridge Park. Proceeds will go towards helping the zoo care for animals, both in the zoo and around the world.
