James Keith is the assistant news director for KENS 5. He joined the KENS 5 team in January 2017 as an investigative reporter. James came to KENS after working as the chief communications officer for the Bexar County Sheriff's Office.
James previously worked on-air and in management for TV stations in San Antonio, Austin and Victoria. He also spent time at Judson ISD as the school district's communication director.
In 2008 and 2009, James was named one of the best reporters in Texas by the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters. In 2009, he was named a "Top 40 Under 40 Rising Star" by the San Antonio Business Journal.
His reporting from New Orleans in 2005 after Hurricane Katrina helped earn News 8 Austin an Edward R. Murrow award. In March 2010, James completed the Los Angeles Marathon.
James was born in San Antonio but grew up in Pearsall and Victoria. He earned his bachelor's degree in radio/TV from Sam Houston State University and his master's degree in communication and leadership from Gonzaga University.
In his spare time, James volunteers as a mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters, and his fraternity, Sigma Phi Epsilon. James is married and has three children.
