Apparently I did not win the lottery this time. Nor did you. But one lucky man who had a "what-the-heck" attitude one day hit the jackpot. An $8 million dollar jackpot that is. He gets $2.9 million of that prize.
According to the Texas Lottery Commission, Mark Monroe purchased five Quick Pick Lotto Texas tickets at the EZ Mart on Dover Ridge on Christmas Eve. Would you believe this whole time, the lucky ticket has been in the door pocket of his car! (I'm cleaning my car as soon as I get home.)
Monroe told the Lottery Commission, his attorney advised him to put it in a lockbox at the bank. And he told the Lottery Commission he plans to use the prize money to help his family, the rest will go to a trust.
So where's the rest of the cash prize? The EZ Mart gets a bonus of one percent which comes to $40,000. The other half was claimed by the Morris Family Trust in Arlington.
