Fatal park shooting not random; still lacks clear motive, police say
A man who was shot to death on San Antonio's west side was not the victim of a random attack, according to the San Antonio Police Department.
SAPD said the man's body was discovered right next to Ojeda Park early Thursday morning.
Multiple residents reported hearing gunshots around the same time, like Guadalupe Pena. "I just heard pow-pow-pow, like around four or five times," Pena told KENS 5.
SAPD said once on scene, they found the body of a Hispanic man in his 20s or 30s right off the bridge on Delgado Street near a creek. Police Chief William McManus said this was not a random shooting.
McManus said it is too early to tell if the victim was homeless, or if this is gang-related. Pena said there are a lot of homeless people who have been staying under the bridge.
A woman, who lives in the area, said she saw a man run past the park and get in a green pickup truck following the shooting. Investigators are looking at that possibility but said the motive is still unclear.
