Priya joined the KENS 5 Eyewitness News team in June 2016. She is excited to pursue investigative work in San Antonio and help residents with “Eyewitness Wants to Know” reports.
She comes to San Antonio from Washington, D.C., where she worked as a Washington correspondent for a 24-hour international news channel called Arise News. While at Arise, Priya co-hosted a two-hour morning breakfast show every weekend from New York City with Richard Pryor’s daughter. She also served as a fill-in anchor in London and reported for six weeks from Nigeria on the historic 2015 presidential elections.
Prior to Arise, Priya worked as a video journalist based in Chicago for the Associated Press. While there, she spent weeks covering the protests and aftermath of the Michael Brown shooting in Ferguson, Mo. She has also worked as the South Asia correspondent and bureau chief for RT, an international news channel. She reported from all over India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Indonesia.
In addition to her stints overseas, Priya has worked as an anchor and correspondent for RT based in Washington, D.C. She started her career as a multimedia journalist for the NBC affiliates in Maine. In addition to journalism, Priya is a reserve officer in the U.S. Navy.
She holds a master’s degree in broadcast journalism from Northwestern University and a bachelor’s degree in international relations and history from Bowdoin College. She is originally from the Boston are and is excited to join her family and extended family who also live in San Antonio.
